Our Story #5
2019 was a whirlwind summer and we barely moved in the Park St house before school started. It didn’t take much, as it was furnished when my parents bought it, and since our house was for sale in Tulsa, we left our furnishings there so it would show better.
We began to settle into life in Carlton Landing. Christian decided he wanted to be baptized that summer and he wanted his Dad and Padze to do it in the lake by the Town Green. That special moment was validation that we were where we needed to be, despite some of the uncertainties and challenges. The kids started 7th and 2nd grade at Carlton Landing Academy. Caleb was busy taking on his new expanded role when his territory oversight and number of agents doubled, working hard to establish relationships and provide leadership where needed. He also began helping with audio/visual at the CL Community Church in the tent. That fall he turned 40 and we celebrated with our new friends.
At this point in my business, I was mainly focusing on paint and finishes. I have a Masters in Communication and most of my experience up to this point was in public relations and marketing, working in the healthcare and education fields. But my mom had studied interior design in college and my grandfather had been a real estate developer/builder in Austin, so after we moved to Oklahoma and the kids were adequately adjusted, I attended a color training in Canada to hone my skills.
We had remodeled and sold 4 houses already, plus I helped many friends with their homes, and I found paint to be one of the most difficult challenges for my clients. I had just registered my business with the IRS in April and we found out we were moving in May. Knowing I was leaving an urban area and moving to a brand new tiny town in rural Oklahoma, I had all but accepted the fact that my aspirations of becoming a color consultant were over. Little did I know that they and much more were brewing.
