Our Story #6
The community was so welcoming to our family, and we were invited to dinners at several families’ homes that fall. One of those families was the Nieto family, whom we already had a connection with through our church in Tulsa. Daryl and Aimun had moved to CL to work with the developer, Grant Humphreys and the builder Mike Kerney. He had recently joined up with Austin Tunnel and was looking for someone to help with color/material selections. I said I would love to help, and we began working on a few projects together. Also, around that time, the Raney’s heard what I was doing and hired me to help them with their custom home on Park St. which Daryl happened to be the builder. Working with Daryl helped me understand his process and it wasn’t long after that Caleb and I decided we wanted to use him to build our home on Ridgeline.
Our home in Tulsa was under contract but in December the deal fell through because of our buyer’s buyers. Not knowing how long it would take to sell, we decided we weren’t going to break ground on our new home until it did. But I was already working on the design.
I wish I could remember how I came across this book, but when I was replacing our exterior windows in Tulsa I purchased “Get Your House Right” by Marianne Cusato, Ben Pentreath, Richard Sammons and Leon Krier. I didn’t know it at the time, but all of these architects are major players in Classicism and New Urbanism. I had aligned with their philosophy before I had even moved to Carlton Landing.
